(NewsNation) — If you've flown recently, you know the motions you'll need to go through before boarding your plane. Check your luggage, pass through TSA, show your driver's license, scan your boarding pass. What about stepping on a scale? Many reacted less-than-fondly to an announcement earlier this month that Korean Air, a South Korea-based airline, planned to weigh passengers before boarding. A representative for the airline told CNBC the practice would last for about three weeks, and is required by law. All Korean flag carriers have to weigh passengers and their carry-ons at least every five years to ensure safe flying operations, the representative explained. Airfare is finally cheaper, but you may want to book soon Passengers will be weighed anonymously, Korean Air said, and passengers can opt out. So can you expect to find yourself on a scale before boarding your next domestic flight?Likely, no, but it isn't impossible. The U.S. does not require airlines to weigh passengers ...Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter accused of sexually assaulting 15-year-old on yacht: lawsuit

Simley football coach Chris Mensen has told his players many times already this year that the Spartans will now be the hunted. That’s what happens when you win a state title, as Simley did last year by downing Hutchinson in the Class 4A championship game. And, frankly, that’s a credit and respect Simley has sought.“I think it’s a good change for Simley football,” Spartans senior running back and linebacker Danny Martin said. “We’ve always kind of been an underdog. But yeah, it’s something that we’ve wanted, and now this year, it’s time to go.”But they’re going into uncharted waters with an unproven crew. Simley’s state championship team in 2022 was senior-dominated. Quarterback Caden Renslow, bell cow Gavin Nelson and big-play machine Tayvion McCoy are all gone, along with many other heavy contributors.Of the full-time starters from a year ago, only two are back on each side of the ball. That’s what makes it difficult to even say there’s momentum rolling into this fall. Certainly, as...Green Island pursuit leads to crash with CDTA bus

Vance Joseph is standing on the edge of a practice field just below where his office used to be.An orange long sleeve shirt with the Broncos logo emblazoned on the chest belies the scorching August temperature. It could easily belie Joseph’s winding path from that former office to this training camp, too, had the first fork in the road not played out so publicly here. When Joseph moments earlier talked about linebacker Josey Jewell and safety Justin Simmons, he did so as the re-familiarizing defensive coordinator rather than the longtime head coach.Much of that duo’s development has happened since Joseph packed his belongings from the Broncos training facility at the end of the 2018 season and left town after getting fired from his first head coaching job.A fair amount of Joseph’s has, too.Joseph, of course, spent the past four seasons coordinating Arizona’s defense. He did solid work there overall, though the Cardinals had just one winning season and went 28-37 under head...The LA Metro needs to rename a critical project. Here's why

Los Angeles officials are in desperate need of a new name for a transit project in southeast Los Angeles County that has caused some confusion among the masses. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, aka LA Metro, is looking for a new name for the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor project, in hopes of clearing up the confusion.Despite its name, the planned transit expansion project stops short of Orange County and comes nowhere near Santa Ana. Instead the 14.5-mile segment connects Artesia to downtown Los Angeles with nine stops in the Gateway Cities along the way. The name comes from a long-forgotten transit line between L.A. and Santa Ana operated by Pacific Electric Railway. The line hasn't been in use since the 1950s, but LA Metro owns the right of way and the name has carried over and survived through the years.A Pacific Electric Railway car bound for SantaAna is shown in this undated photo. Some USC students have been left scrambling to find temporary housing amid construction delays at two off-campus apartment buildings in Exposition Park.Despite having signed leases months ago, students haven’t been able to move in.That’s because Jefferson Flats on Jefferson Boulevard and Hub LA Figueroa on Figueroa Street are still under construction. In late June, USC sophomore and pre-med student Ryan Kober received an email from Jefferson Flats saying construction on the site was delayed and his scheduled move-in date was moved to mid-September, about month after classes were set to start for the fall.A few weeks later, the Philadelphia native got another email saying the move-in date was pushed again to October.Instead of living in an apartment close to campus with his friend and amenities that drew him in — like brand new construction and a gym — for a reasonable price, Kober is staying at an Airbnb farther from campus.“I was overwhelmed, my mom was overwhelmed because I’m her o...Latest news
