Tommy DeVito will be the first rookie to start at quarterback for Giants in modern draft era

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 00:02:20 GMT

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Tommy DeVito is still living in the low-rent district of the New York Giants’ locker room. It’s an area in the middle of the room where temporary lockers have been set up for the 16 players on the practice squad and others on injured reserve working with the training staff. The lockers are a little smaller than the permanent ones that surround the room, and they don’t have lock cabinets for valuables. It’s not a place where one would expect to find the starting quarterback for the Giants (2-7) for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys (5-2) in Dallas. When DeVito, an undrafted free agent out of Illinois, was elevated from the practice squad last week after backup Tyrod Taylor (ribs) went on injured reserve, he didn’t take one of the permanent lockers. EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings listed wide receiver Justin Jefferson as questionable to play Sunday against New Orleans after a productive first week back at practice following the hamstring strain that has kept him out of the last four games.Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said earlier that playing Jefferson this week would “probably be a little aggressive.” But he declined to close the door Friday on putting the 2022 NFL Offensive Player of the Year on the field against the Saints.“At this point, we’re just trying to be smart and almost hold him back from trying to do too much too soon because of how good he feels,” O’Connell said. “It’s going to be a true day-to-day process for him.”The Vikings by rule don’t have to bring Jefferson back until after their Week 13 bye. But after opening his window to return, they can now put him on the active roster at any time. The Vikings will have left tackle Christian Darrisaw (groin) back Sunday afte...
